It was so long ago, the day we met,
But when I visit it in my mind,
You seem so clear and close to me,
Some peace I seem to find.

I can still hear all your silly jokes,
And see the smile that warmed my heart,
And feel the confident way you put me at ease,
Forming a bond that would never part.

Through all the years you were there for me,
Just appearing before I even called your name.
Surrounding me in a blanket of love,
And taking away any hurt of pain.

You were the one who really cared,
And knew me best of all.
You reassured me of your love.
Your confidence helped me to stand tall.

You reached out when I had no one,
And pulled me out of despair.
You soothed my fears and dried my tears,
And made me realize how very much you cared.

We shared everything, you and I,
Our hopes and dreams and fears,
Our laughter and fun and joys to come.
Through it all, we remained close through the years.

I loved the way you made me laugh,
And I too could make you smile.
Oh if I could only hear your voice,
If only for a while.

For the lips that kissed mine so very tenderly,
For all those many years,
Are cold now and the voice is stilled,
That made me laugh, cheered me on and calmed my many fears.

Every night when I pray, I asked God to speak to you,
And tell you I haven't forgotten one cherished memory.
And tell you I still love you and miss you,
And please, oh please save a place for me.
